Pike.........less!

Following on from Tuesdays pursuit of the elusive Pike I upped my game and took a trip over to Cheddar reservoir and fished it hard….really hard walking and fishing the entire 2.2 mile circumference. Sad to say I didn’t even have a follow not one…Multiple hard baits soft baits, jellies, shads, and spinners got a dunk for absolutely squadoosh….Undeterred the next day was another trip this time down to Durleigh Reservoir who among other things boast of specimen size Pike….Sadly an identical result…..Zip!!

I know the tactics employed work because the toothy critters have been foxed with my cunning efforts before….Just don’t understand three blanks in three trips?!?

On brighter news….I have a boat confirmed on Chew Valley lake next Month when they open this trout water up to the Pike troublers....This water prodcued over 100 20's and loads of 30's the end of last Year so I am hopeful of some bragging rights next Month! Maybe there is a 40 with my name on it

Anyone else forgetting what a pike looks…these aren’t too shabby!!

Re: Pike.........less!

Hi Appleman.

I had been trying to catch a Pike for the last 3 years. Thankfully I finally managed it last weekend. Only my second pike in my life.

Re: Pike.........less!

hi, I reckon its the toughest season ive ever had for Pike. All my usual banker spots just arent producing and despite trying various methods many a blank has occured. I cant put my finger on it but the weather in early November suddenly plummeted and has really stayed that way with only a milder spell coming this week.
Hopefully this should spur the feeding again.
Best of luck everyone.

Re: Pike.........less!

Yeah I'm having a shocker too. So many blanks it's untrue. I'm doing the same stuff I've done before but it just isn't working. But other people are catching.

I can only put it down to the weather (excuses, excuses...). So much colder this year than in previous years.

Stick in there.

Re: Pike.........less!

No you're not wrong... but...

It's been so much colder than the last few years. Pike do feed in the cold but they move around less. Also, the fish they eat will be moving around a lot less too.

I just don't think they're that bothered about food at the moment.

You've got to find them (not easy) and if you find them you've got to hope they're hungry! You've got to be in the right place at the right time with the right bait (or lure). But even that doesn't guarantee things!

Re: Pike.........less!

my season on the river has been good not had a blank yet although nothing huge have still managed to catch. Did manage a blank at chew on a very wet and windy day. Had my letter this week with my two dates in feb for bank permits at chew so fingers crossed on a decent fish there.
