well that was a tad unsuccesfull decided not to get too bad last night and after a few social ones with baggie in the local ,was even home before midnight( just in time to meet the mrs going to bed with a muffled grunt about leaving our 12 year old up to see in new year with me but this ment I managed to get out of bed and down at the river where i wanted to be by 8am, everywhere was solid underfoot but got away with just 2 layers and fleece as wanted to be mobile this was a new area of the river for me, the Culm at beare gate its a cracking looking spot first swim ( of many) ![]() seemed rude not to put a bait under this tree ![]() I had 1 rod out with most deads available and other trotting with maggot to see if could get anything to rename livebait ( then would send out on a second rod) well i tried hard to get a livebait but they werent playing either and these pesky swans followed me to almost every swim ![]() I dont know what else i could have done today i'm sure was fishing ok but nothing happened think this is a good river for trying with lures ( will be back to try this idea v soon) as is deep decided at 1pm that at 4 swims on it was time to depart, found that the hard ground i walked over earlier was now trecherous mud with a thin crust over where cows waited at the gate, mmm nice so as I was still earlyish , on the way back I stopped to look at usual killerton section, gave it 20 mins just with float rod but the steady east wind was decidedly cold by now, got back to car in a soft muddy carpark to find a dead flat rear tyre , got this sorted eventually after finding hard ground for jackthen drove home not really thinking and I'm sure i got flashed by camera ![]() really not my day ,but still I had enjoyed the morning fishing despite the blank, but other events can only go 1 way from here and thats up ![]() ![]() dave __________________ www.exmouthsaa.co.uk 24 beers in a case and 24 hours in a day simples You won't know unless you go :D...and if you do go!! please let us know :D as thats how the forum thrives

Re: it can only go up from here Ouch, sounds like a bad day on the river. As you say things can only get better, as someone said after my last blank, it gives them time to get bigger.

Re: it can only go up from here Forgot to say, that stretch of river does look lovely, very fishy, that tree looks like it could be home to some big old chub

Re: it can only go up from here unlucky dave better luck next time looks ideal for searching out those pike have you tried suspending a dead bait under a float and searching those swims perfect for cold weather keeps you active. You can vary the depth aswell.

Re: it can only go up from here Coming from a man (well, nearly) who has had about 10 million blanks, it makes it worth it when you catch something. Once went two months without a thing, then four Pike in one night, and home in time for the Liverpool Champions League match. Result!
