Soaking baits in oil Hi chaps, I was wondering if it was worth soaking my deadbaits in oils, a few questions. Is it worth it? What oils would you use? How long do you soak it, and then do you freeze it or what do you do?? Thanks for any help __________________ Dan `·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸ Big or small, look after them all! ¸.·´¯`·.¸ ><((((º>

Re: Soaking baits in oil there are no hard and fast rules dan, anything is worth a try,i have tried a few tricks with pilchard oil and the like. i have froze some deadbaits in pilchard oil,i ended up casting out bloody great ice cubes, but all the trouble didn't seem worth it because the results were none better than with other baits, i concluded that baits such as mackerel and herring have plenty of there own oils.but others might need a little enhancement shall we say.

| Re: Soaking baits in oil I have injected the stomach with oil and then pricked the stomach and cast out A couple of minutes later a little slick has appeared and I caught some pike It is a bit messy but I had fun doing it - I only do things like this if Im not getting bites The golden question of did it work better than if I did not do it Only the fish know and they dont talk __________________ Richard|Sea Fishing |Carp Fishing| Spud Gun | Zander fishing | Fishing Reports | Hunting Reports |

Re: Soaking baits in oil i have read and spoken to a lot of blokes about oils and the like and fished with many different kinds, the best answer i can come up with is that boosting your dead bait is one of the best things you can do in pike fishing . i may be a bit fanatical about it but i never fish without at least 2 boosted baits in the water and have had a much greater hit rate with them then the untreated baits. codliver oil is my fav. my personal killer is injecting codliver oil plus oyster sauce plus fish sauce into the stomach of the deadbait and then freezing it. i have tried a few of the brand name boosters and prologic do a few good ones, but i aint tried em for long enough to really be able to say they work. hope this helps

Re: Soaking baits in oil p.s. soaking dont seem to work very well . i only boost with whole bait and only inject through the mouth. one other trick i like to do is glue the dead baits mouth after boosting and making one small hole in the stomach so a slow release of the oil and sauces occurs

Re: Soaking baits in oil What I tend to do if I wanna boost my baits is to replace the lead with a 2-4oz feeder and fil this with foam an mashed fish then i inject the foam with pilchard oil etc, I wouldnt have thought that vege oil would do any good as its not gonna attract the pike

Re: Soaking baits in oil using feeders is a good idea.. if your bait aint moving pva bags suffed with mashed bait is also a good idea as you can get loads more into the bag then you can fit into a feeder....veg oil aint worth the effort only use fish oils
