| Experiment Drew Blank Hello all, I woke up this morning at about six o'clock and was surprised to look out of my bedroom window and see the whole surrounding countryside covered in a heavy coating of frost, it was not what i was hoping for. This didnt put me off and i got all the tackle ready, packed my dad's car with it and then waited for my friend to arrive. He arrived slightly later than expected, arrived about nine o'clock. ![]() The frost at my house We set off on the five minute car journey to the lake and we were met with the lake being very calm and some of the margins were frozen over. We set up four rods between us, all ledgered with makerel tails or heads. Cast to around 35 yards so as to get over the weed bed. As i had said previous to the trip i was going to be experimenting with some attractors. I injected one rod with "Van Den Eynde Predator Plus" another with my new attractor; "Devil's Delight" another injected with WD40 and finally i left one rod blank as a control. The morning started off well with no problems , apart from the lack of fish . It was about one o'clock when we had lunch and we still had no runs or even a sign of one. The lake was just getting colder and colder but lucky for me i brought my new Balaclava . It did make me look like an ecscaped terrorist , But if it kept me warm i wasn't going to worry.![]() Terrorist or Fisherman You Decide??? After lunch we rebaited the rods and re-injected them with attractants, all we could do was hope and wait. That is what we did with out any luck for the rest of the day, but i beleive that the sudden change in temperature from mild to freezing did not help matters also the sun never went benhind a cloud the whole and and the lake was in full sun light which may have also put he pike off feeding. ![]() The Sun on the Lake ![]() Unfortunately we did not mange a pike today so the experiment was invalid but there is always next time. | Re: Experiment Drew Blank I went piking last week on a local canal. I was using ledgered sprat all morning and not a sniff. As the canal I was fishing was quite small I was able to pour blended sprat and mackrel into the swim and after about 20 minutes I had my first run which resulted in a 12llb beauty. Unfortunately that was my only one of the day but the blended fish did seem to make a difference . (or maybe it ws just a coincidence), that might be worth a try although the method of introducing the blend would have to be different in a lake obv. |
