New PB!!!!!

Well, went with a mate for a day's Piking at a private lake at the weekend. The weather was cold with a slight breeze but not too uncomfortable.

Started off doing a spot of spinning with the usual selection of Mepps, Toby’s and Plugs… different areas, different depths…………....not a sniff.

Then I set up 2 deadbait rods. One with a ledgered whole sardine, and the other a popped up Sprat (a big ‘un at that!).

Chucked them both out at about 50 yards, tightened up, set the bobbins and bite alarms and sat back and waited…. and waited.
After about an hour, I decided to bring the baits in so we could nip in the back of the Land Rover to cook some dinner. Just as I approached the Sprat rod…..beep…...beep, beep, beep………tighten up…STRIKE! Yes…Fish on!!!

It didn’t put up much of a scrap (I was using a 3lb TC rod and 15lb line), but it did make a couple of runs towards the other rod’s line which made it interesting. It only took a few minutes to get to the bank. My mate took charge of the landing net and as soon as it slid over the rim of the net I knew it was a new personal best..!

The hooks were right in the scissors so a doddle to remove, then Into a weighing sling it went. After subtracting the weight of the net the final weight was a massive 5lb 6oz …………….. not bad for a Rainbow Trout!!!
