Treble Hooks for Pike fishing

Treble Hooks for Pike fishing - What size treble hooks do you guys and girls use for dead bait

Herring
Mackeral
Roach
Sprat

And do you prefer barbless treble hooks or barbed treble hooks

Just thinking over a cold one what other people are doing

Re: Treble Hooks for Pike fishing

not sure on the size i use, cant remember but i always remove the barb on the barb/barbs pointing outa the bait but leave them on on the barb which is used to hold that bait
just holds onto the bait abit better and seems more fair on the pike

Re: Treble Hooks for Pike fishing

i always use a size 8 treble, never had any need to go bigger or smaller, have bought the occasional lure with great big horrendous trebles on them, first thing i do is change them,
i do the same as ben with barbless hooks,
as a matter of fact barbless hooks are regulation in many fisheries these days.

Re: Treble Hooks for Pike fishing

i use size 6 or 8. On my trebles i have 2 barbess and 1 barbed, the barbed part of the hook going into the fish, i think this does hold it better

Yes - this is the best way of using treble hooks for pike fishing

Well posted Norfolkboy

I do not like using barbed trebles and always get the pliers out an flatten them if they are there

Re: Treble Hooks for Pike fishing

Yeah size 6-8 for me to unless i'm putting on an especially big bait when i might go up a size to make sure i get penetration . not too big though i once found a discarded trace on the bank with what i can only describe as grappling hooks on it !! Not very sporting eh ?
