Pike fishing rod reel help

Hi all im new to this forum and pretty new to fishing ,so please be gentle with me if my question are noobish. I would like to get in to pike fishing with a spinninr rod and lures here is the rod i have been looking at SHIMANO 6FT 6 SPINNING ROD **NEW** BASS PIKE MED/HEAVY it's about £20 pound on ebay, i know it's a bit cheap but im on a budget and i could always upgrade later.

I would like to know what sort of reel to get for around £20 pound,i have been looking around the net, but im a bit done in by multiplyers and the like so any help would be very welcome. And also where and what to look for with the traces i would need. Any help would be welcome thanks.

Re: Pike fishing rod reel help

rod sounds ok

i would try to get a 4000 or 5000 size reel fixed spool if you can, there are a good few 500 baitrunners on evilbay cheap that will do

a multi is ok but i find more for the larger lures but thats personal

after that its just a pike spinning trace ( about 80/90p) from the tackle shop between line and spinner, would go for minimum 12lb line as well

Re: Pike fishing rod reel help

reels wise i agree with dave,4000 or 5000 sounds fine, but i would not advise you to try a multiplier, they can be difficult for novices to handle,i would stick to the fixed spool for a while and move up to a multiplier later as you gain experience

Re: Pike fishing rod reel help

the 4000 or 5000 refers to the size of the reel

if you look/type in on evilbay you will see what mean
