Re: Pike Fishing Rigs I normally use the top picture you show but put the bottom trabble in the gill and the top trebble in the middle of the fish. Then bait elastic the wire trace to the tail of the bait to secure. I do this because how you have show it there I found the head was being ripped up without hitting the fish. I hit them every time now but you do risk deep hooking them though I suppose.

Re: Pike Fishing Rigs deep hooking is a mugs game! why would i wana kill a fish for a quick fishing hit! pike arnt exactly the greatest fighters ar they? pike ar delicate, easier too kill than catch, damage its gills or leave a treble down its throat, its dead in the long run! its not a grazer like a carp much like a cow, just mooching about eating anything it bumps into, its a top of the apex predator! leaving a pike damaged is like leaving a cheetah with a broken foot, its f**ked. what im saying is if you cant fish for them safe find somthing else to fish for! __________________ SCUPPER A COMMERCIAL TOOOO DAY! Although i must say i disagree with the questioning of the pike's fighting ability! They are great in my opinion, they might not be as powerful as say a carp but i would say its a far more exciting fight, thats just my opinion though! ![]() __________________ Blackwater Tackle Supplies Keep Ulster's Waters Healthy, Practice Catch and Release!

Re: Pike Fishing Rigs gimme pike over carp anytime but thats just cos i aint caught a carp yet, but next spring i hope to and if they fight pound for pound like the tench i caught last summer then the pike would be well pushed to post.. as for deep hooking, there are no excuses these days for deep hooking, yes there are exceptions but with all the bite indicators available these days it should be very rare, when i float fish for pike i always use an alarm also, one thing that annoys me is watching someone stand on a run, saying " hold on give it a min" while line flies off the spool or as i witnessed very recently , an elderly blokes alarm was blaring with no one in sight...he was atleast 100 meters away talking to another bloke,.. he hobbled down, which seemed 5 mins later, to dogs abuse from other anglers . theres always a few

Re: Pike Fishing Rigs arrr noo please lets not turn it into a carp v pike debate, but if im gana get a sneaky one in lol think when carp get big say over 25lb they tend to plod, had some lunkers in france this summer and most plodded around with the odd manic surge (taking 20m of line in a single burst) so all good fun! carp under the 25lb mark seem to fight alot harder tho obviously easier too turn. ive had pike to mid 20s and gota say the fish to the higher end plod about much like carp, with smaller fish just going round in circles. This is only my opinion based on my own experience. Dont think thers a right and wrong ![]() well apart from needlesly deep hooking fish we intend to release. __________________ SCUPPER A COMMERCIAL TOOOO DAY!

Re: Pike Fishing Rigs ive had commons at 20lb take 20 mins to get in and pike at the same weight take 5 ,but i have also has the opposite happen . mind you i had a 60lb fish take 45 mins to net i think it depends on so many different factors on how they fight , the thing people MUST remember is no matter what fish it is ,GIVE it time to recover

Re: Pike Fishing Rigs thats kind of one of the reasons ive stopped see fishing so much, just seems a bit brutal somtimes, not many sea anglers feel the need to treat fish ther going to release with respect with this idea that seafish ar somhow tougher, chucked on the shingle smashing about, lobbed back in from great heights ect, smoothound for instance throw everything into a fight and ar simply lobbed back into the surf by most anglers and never given a chance to recover! __________________ SCUPPER A COMMERCIAL TOOOO DAY!
