Re: Pike Fishing Rigs

I probably didn't explain too well. I prefer the top hook to be locked to the line, that way both hooks can support the bait while casting, as it is shown in the drawing the top hook is free to run on the line which means it can't support the bait and can't be "struck" into the fish. If the top hook has the line wound around a few times and a piece of rubber sleeve pushed over the shank it locks the line to it. I make sure the line is locked quite well otherwise the top hook can still slide and that leaves you with a bent fish in the water.

Thumbs up Re: Pike Fishing Rigs

I have used something like the middle rig on flowing water under a float with some success. I allow the deadbait (usually a sprat or smelt) to trot down the current and then check the line every so often which make the deadbait rise and fall in the current. Last season this accounted for several low doubles from the river Brue near Glastonbury.

Re: Pike Fishing Rigs

I use what has been refered to as a gardine rig. It consists of two trebles which are set along the flank of the dead bait and a single hook which is passed through either head or tail of bait. since using this method I have never lost a bait while casting. The only unfortunate thing about this rig is that it is not made comercialy and you need to make it up yourself.

Re: Pike Fishing Rigs

thats not a problem mate, commercially made traces are often not as good as home made,
i have made my own for years and believe me it is a lot cheaper and you can make them to suit your needs
have a go.its really easy.
