I have tried both live baiting and dead baiting.

What you have to remember is in the wild a pike woulg go for an injured or slowly moving fish, this way they do not use as much energy. this is why it all depends on the predator and the instinct they are in at any given time.

there shouldn't be any cross contamination as you are only allowed BY LAW to use a live bait in the waters it came from IT IS ILLEGAL to move a live fish from one water to another without permission from the E.A
