Re: live-baiting

I dont think live-baiting is better or more productive than deadbaiting and that being the case i dont see why anyone should stick a live fish (of any species) on a trace ! And as for those of you who say that all thats happening is nature at work I disagree 'cause mother nature dosn't tether a fish up to die ,does she ?

heres my top 6 :

1:Carp 4-6 inches (mirror,common)
2:Brown Trout up to 1 lb
3:Roach 4-6 inches i love hoaching roach for bait
4:Skimmer Bream up to 1 1/2lb it actually works
5:Goldfish £5 out of pet shop or your mates goldfish bowl
6:Jacks 6-8 inches pulls out big fish
THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD EVEN CONSIDER USING A JACK AS BAIT ! I know thats what happens naturally but thats the way it was intended not by us having a hand in it -- not for me !! Theres nothing a roach, smelt or mackerel cant do than a live jack can (except swim that is !!)

Re: live-baiting

I don't think that using live fish (or other critters [read nightcrawlers]) is a problem. Just choosing to use them or not to use them is a personal preference, that is up to every individual angler to decide.

One time I fished with minnows- that were alive (when I cast the line and for a while under water at least). I did not catch anything, but I was not upset that I killed/ hurt fish. I have never been upset about killing maggots or nightcrawlers either.

I usually catch and release when I fish but that has nothing to do with me deciding to hug trees and not kill fish. The waters in Connecticut are contaminated with Hg (mercury and other heavy metals). Of course that is one of the side affects of my regions industrial blessing. New Britain, my town,k was once the hardware capital of the world, and today we are still home to Stanley Works Tools.

To each their own...

Of course they are way different, but there is a similar concept involved. If the problem is taking the life of a critter of some sort, dosen't a fly= a maggot= nightcrawler=minnow=whatever other living thing one sticks on his hook?

Re: live-baiting

I have now found out that for some types of fishing, the best bait is live bait. Specifically Shiners in my case.

Re: live-baiting

Live bait is quite commonly used here in Canada. Some of the comments in this thread could just provide ammunitions for the anti's. Although we may use different methods we all must stick together. Some anti's are already claiming hooking a worm is cruel. If we become divided amoungst ourselves the anti's will conquer us one group at a time. Prefer your own choice but do not ridicle others choices as long as the are legal.

Lets not be divided or we all will lose

Re: live-baiting

HI

In Northern Ireland live baiting is completly illeagle if you were caught using them you would be arrested. I think it should be made ileagle world wide.
