Re: Piking Blues

hello mate, i dont live in your area but the best advice i can give you is to take a ppek at the PAC website, the link is below,

there is also a very good book called " the fox guide to modern pike fishing " it is available at most good tackle dealers or evil bay,

Re: Piking Blues

check out the LAS events http://www.lureanglers.co.uk/newEventDetails.htm

good laugh and good fishing and great advice, twykesbury is a good venue, also look at the LAS forum for advice -

Harris Sportsmail / LAS Zander Match at Tewkesbury

Saturday October 4th 2008.

Fish 9.00am - 4pm.

Fished at Ham Island, Tewkesbury.

One of our most popular matches, fished on the same stretch of the River Severn as the record zander came from, and last year the winner had a 10lb zander, our then new LAS secretary John Brownlow caught his first zander at over 6lb! Again Harris Sportsmail are sponsoring the event and Steve Collett will be there to not only fish but present the prizes. Whether you are an experienced zander angler or have never caught one, the event is for you, every year someone catches their first ever zander. Due to the good head of pike at this venue, a special pike prize is given, and last year several double figure pike were caught. (Really must have a pike match on this water one day). Ham Island is very large with the River Severn along one length, the Warwickshire Avon along another stretch, and a Mill Stream along another stretch, ALL produce zander. This is a roving match as always and includes two weir pools. Due to the large size of the zander and pike, do not fish light, and any salmon caught must be returned. Arrangements have been made with the controlling club to fish the venue, the entry ticket includes the water day ticket. Meet and pay on the day, members £10.00, non members £14.00 (if you join on the day you save £4 off your membership). Prizes from Harris Sportsmail for best zander to two places, best bag of zander to two places, special prize for best pike. Juniors under 16 fish for free but must be accompanied by an adult, and also a prize for best junior catch.

DIRECTIONS. Come off the M5 Motorway at Junction 9, Tewkesbury, take the A438 into the town, go straight on at the war memorial in the town centre. A minutes drive and you will see the Abbey on your left, a few hundred yards on and on the right is the car park, bring some change for the parking. Ideally pay your entrance fee by cheque made out to the Lure Anglers Society, if it is cash please make sure you have the right money.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Northern Lure Match, Nottingham

Sunday October 19th 2008.

Fish 9.00am - 4pm.

Fished at National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham.

This year Sam Baxter of Baxter Angling will be sponsoring this event, he will also be on hand to present the prizes with rods for the first place winners. Prizes will be given for the best pike to two places, and best bag of pike to two places, and a separate prize for juniors consisting of a rod and reel combo. The venue is totally new to us, it's the Finger Lakes and River Trent just outside Nottingham, easy access from the M1 and A1. These waters are particularly known for their pike, both in the lakes, which are now joined and cover 45 acres, and the three miles of the River Trent. As always it is a roving match over all the available water. October is a prime time for piking with the pike filling themselves up before the cold of winter, so we are expecting some good fishing. LAS members entry is £10.00, non-members £14.00 (join on the day and save £4), juniors under 16 fish for free but must be accompanied by an adult.

DIRECTIONS. . National Water Sports Centre, Adbolton Lane, Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham, NG12 2LU. For those with Sat Nav's, put in Adbolton Lane as well as the postcode. It's about 10 miles from the M1 or A1 and 2 miles from the A46.
