pike are looked after on the bank because they need to go back in the water to grow bigger
please look at the pike anglers club website, the link is below,it will give you plenty of useful hints about pike handling
Don't worry, every pike I catch returns to its element with all due respect.
Anyway, in those Spanish places where it's so hard to hook a fish (because of the high fishing pressure), we use to hook a given pike several times.
Look at this video to see the pike of the first photo returning to water:

This pike, I catched it 3 times in a period of 3 weeks last year.

Actually the (ugly) guy appearing on one photo is myself But it's true my explanations are not really clear.....

I forgot to mention the fish-grip whose use is rather problematic but it can be useful (personnally, I don't use it).

Re: Pike - Pike Fishing

Hi Troutmaster, they are Spanish pikes , from Pedrezuela Lake and the Tormes river.

Re: Pike - Pike Fishing

Is keeping a Pike legal? sorry but im new to fishing, I have no idea, but im learning :)

I caught 2nd fish today, it was a baby Pike, I took it home to eat and by the time I gutted it, took the head and fins off there was no meat, , well just a little, got it in the fridge to eat for tomorrow.

I know people say Pike tastes bad but i'm going to try, never know until you try ;)

Re: Pike - Pike Fishing

hi there when a was buying my rod and reel the woman told me if i was lifting pike out with my hand to cover it because if you pick it up without covering your hand and you pull your hand back they can slice your hand open is that true or not ?

Re: Pike - Pike Fishing

spot on fishypaul, in my view up there with our most beautiful native fish.
all fish should be treated the same no matter what.Look after them as best as possible from the time you hook them until you return them, i love the sport thats why i even do it with sea fish as well.
