Float Rig For Trotting?

Following on from advice I received in a recent post on here I'm hopefully going to be fishing a little river that has a very healthy Pike population this Sunday.

The river is more like a wide stream which is quite deep and fast flowing with tall stand like weed in the centre and reeds on either bank.

When I asked about a suitable static dead bait rig I was told that this venue sounded like a good candidate for trotting a dead bait on a float. I'm really starting to like the idea of doing this but I've no idea where to begin as I've never tied such a rig or used pike floats before and don't really know where to begin.

In the research I've done I keep seeing references to beads, stop knots, power gum and various types of pike floats none of which I own or know how to use. I've also read that the size of the bait you use will determine the size of the float you need but no indication of actually what size baits you can use with any particular float, therefore I don't know if a particular float is good for a sprat or a whale!

Does anyone have any links to pages that may show the kind of rig I should use but also how to actually assemble the rig and also maybe some kind of shopping list as I just find a lot of this stuff baffling?

I already have 30lb traces and trebles but that's it when it comes to Pike Tackle.

Re: Float Rig For Trotting?

Hi mate I will try and do some piccys on pike rigs on the float later

I always use a helicopter rotary uptrace when float fishing as this gives the bait the ability to roam 360 degrees . One little thing is done use fin wire as trace as a live bait can tie itself in knots !

Good luck on your Pike trip
