Summer Dead Bait Rig?

I've asked a similar question before but this one is a little different.

There's a stretch of river that I fish which has a very healthy population of large Chub and Pike or so I'm told. I'm told because in the three times I fished it so far I've not caught anything other than weed, reeds and the opposite bank! However each time I've been I've met other anglers who rave about how good it can be, maybe they are just having me on

Anyway I'm going to try there again soon and have just heard that the Chub are really showing and so to be honest they are going to be my main quarry.

However I would like to also try for Pike as well and so was thinking about putting out a static deadbait on an alarm but I'm not at all sure what kind of rig I should use.

The river is really more like a wide stream where I fish, you can almost throw maggots by hand to the other side but it's fairy deep and there is a strong current which is non tidal. There is a fair amount of weed in the middle but it's that non dense type, like long blades of thick grass (perfect for Pike to hide in), and along the banks are thick patches of rushes which are so dense you can almost walk on them which then break into grass like weed which has it's roots in the water but grows clear of the surface.

I've been told that sections of Lamprey and Trout are good baits there but I'm just not sure how to present them and how to make the correct rig.

Any tips greatly appreciated.

Re: Summer Dead Bait Rig?

Hopefully going out on Tuesday so will take piccys of rigs and bait mate -a Quick thing is when fishing bait us what is in the river i.e if the mate head is raoch then thats what they will have normally be fishing on.

Must say by your description I sound a good place to try float fishing and just trott your dead bait down the stream . This way you can cover a lot of pegs in a day .
