Re: Gloucester and Sharpness canal

High mate zander arent ment to go back, but I put them back As for rule there there just the local river rules and permits can be got from the some day stretch parts or from bristol street angling.

Im hoping to get down there Sunday or Monday to have a fish and see what a live bait will do ( thats if I catch any live bait ?)

Were you looking at fishing ?

Re: Gloucester and Sharpness canal

Thanks for that Richard, I would put a Zander back if i caught one anyway, could you tell me the reasoning behind this ? My girlfriend's mum and step-dad have a narrow boat (lucky so and so's), and are moored on the stretch at simms lane for a couple of weeks. Think it might be called something and Lea ?

We are going over in a bit so I will be putting a bait out and probably ledgering for a Bream and Roach.

Any usefull tips greatly appreciated.

Jim.

Re: Gloucester and Sharpness canal

That was a typo, I will be trying to catch more than one Bream. Emphasis on the trying.

They have a kill policy - basic are they say they are bad for the water but thats a bit out of date as the zeds have been in there for a long time and are part of the food chain now. Never understand a kill policy as a perch will kill thousands of fry in it life time but thats ok .

If your going for zander just small baits and dust to darkness is when they switch on although during the day you will still get small zanders.

Pike go upto high 20s in your area but there has been a lot of people catching for the pot down the canal over the last year so its not as hot as it was and match weight are that good at the moment. But its a nice water to fish with easy access along the whole stretch so thing arent that bad

Re: Gloucester and Sharpness canal

Thanks Richard, the words "pike go up to high 20s" got my pulse racing a bit.

Not a racial or politically motivated comment but I wonder if the increase in catching for the pot coincides with the number of eastern-europeans which have decended on this part of the country.

I know 17,000 have come to cheltenham in the last 2 yrs, not a problem to me but when they are 'lining' for the carp out of my local lake it's a different story altogether !!!

HI chaps It could be eastern europeans, this year have have found 2 piles of dead bream on the bank on seperate occassions. This is something i used to find all the time when i lived in lincolnshire. It's just what they do on the continent. The Enviroment Agency should be sending people out to educate them before all the fish are gone.

Re: Gloucester and Sharpness canal

I have to agree with that, but I am of the thinking that they are well aware that our coarse fish in lakes and rivers are NOT to be taken. They also know that it is a very popular sport/passtime in the Uk and there is no regard to either of these things. Blatent disrepect to all Anglers and the country they are living in. It's also theft.

To be honest i would say you are entirely right, and if they can't respect our ways and laws they should be deported. I was trying to be careful what i said, because there is a 9 page cat fight on another forum over the same subject.
