Summer lure fishing

Hi all,

Well I've sat still for the last 3 months, doing chores that needed doing (including fitting my in-laws new kitchen, lots of browny points there! & hopefully a few extra fishing sessions) & now I'm just about ready for the new season. I've been a bit Ebay crazy with buying lures, as they all look so good, but now I think I'm ready.
Really after a few bits of advice from you guys if possible, the local river/canal I intend to fish most of this season is 14 miles long with locks & weirpools every mile but does get quite weedy in places as there is not too much flow.It but holds some very good fish of all species, & although I really intend to concentrate on Perch, Chub & Pike with lures I will certainly give bait fishing a go for the other species (including carp to almost 40lb!!!)I thought I'd ask if anyone has got any tips on coping with weedy waters & would make any recommendations regarding tackle etc.

Many thanks in advance

Nic

Re: Summer lure fishing

Hi Nic.

You can get lures that have weed guards fitted. The idea is that when the fish takes it the weed guard uncovers the point of the hook and the fish is landed.

I personally would fish along the edge of the weed beds where the predators are waiting to ambush prey in the open water, so removing the need for a weed guard.

Good Luck

Re: Summer lure fishing

Hi Dan, hoping to go out on Thursday morning, nice early start, around 4ish & fish through till lunchtime. Weather looks good & there are a few swims I'm dying to try that I found on my many walks over the last few months. I'll let everyone know how I get on,

Tight lines

Re: Summer lure fishing

Hi

I have joined a local angling ass, near warwick , upper avon - 1st trip was on tues 17th - aimed to feeder fish but got bored after 10 mins , so chucked out a few lures - 2 jacks to 3 lb and a zed of 5 lb and lost another pike all in the space of a hr , great looking stretch....took a walk up river and seen a few chub on a gravel/sand bar but no takes....will be back there this week end to fish the weir pool....over 100 pegs to fish from....
