| lure Rods & reels Im new to this so please be gentle ![]() im looking to get into pike fishing, i will be using my carp rods for deadbait work, ledgering etc. but i would love to have a go with lures, spinners, jigs, from both bank and boat. can you recommend a decent rod and reel which will cover this for me, and keep me going for a long while. not sure on budget, no idea what they go for, say £80 to get both, or cheaper. also do i have to wait till winter to start pike fishing? anyone know somewhere i can fish now in berkshire, hampshire, surrey areas thanks in advance. |

| Re: lure Rods & reels hello pal your best option is to look at secondhand tackle if you dont like it you havnt paid to much out because some are put off because you can get a bad spell off blanks which is part of piking as for your £85 you can get some really good rods both new and S/HAND i have just bought a prologic lure rod (heavy) and i cant fault it and that was £50 new as for the reel if you are lure fishing a med size match reel with a drag will do better stil if you already have one all you need to do is buy a spare spool and load some line on it 1rods and reels for dead baiting = a 12ft rod with either 2.5-3lb test curve (£15-£250)as for the reel the best thing is a baitrunner or a reel with a freespool facility on it(£15-£150) as for the line it depends on the lake bottom if its sandy/muddy then 12lb but if its rock gravel the up it to 15lb-20lb 2rods and reels for lures=now this is not straight forward, you can get rods from 6ft up to 9 ft but the main thing is to look at the casting weight of the rod compaired to the lures you are using these can go from 5gramm to 3oz (from a tiny mepps spinner to a bulldawg/jerk bait ranging from £20 - £300 as for the reels you can use a open faced reel/baitcasting reel and some companys do a close faced reel i personally use close faced reels but it needs a good drag system on it(£15-£300 and for line you have either brad or mono braid is very good but it takes some getting used to with it having no stretch you dont strike you just lift into the fish but braid you can use 65lb braking strain just because of the grief of constant casting but mono you can use 8lb but only with a light rod and 12lb on a heavy rod but allways use a wire trace hope this helps mate atb and i hope you get a run or a take ian |
