Pike fishing in floods! Hi, a week ago i booked up a couple of boats for pike fishing this sunday on the river Bure, but with all the rain we have had and getting the water is brown and up a bit! Is it still worth getting out for the day or are those conditions the kiss of death!? Will pike hide up in the boat yards and nearby broads!? What are the best tactics for these conditions? I thought very smelly dead baits and bait up with chopped baits! Anyone able to give advice? Will ![]()

Re: Pike fishing in floods! Yes, the chances are a lot of the pike will be held up away from the worst of the floods. if there are boatyards around they may well be in them. however you will still find fish where there are big back-eddies. Your main issue is that you will have to find the fish rather than put out a static bait and wait for the fish to come to you. Use good fresh bait and re-cast every 10 - 15 minutes, trying every likely spot. try fishing tight in to the banks where there are overhangs, as the fish will hide out of the current in these areas. despite the colour of the water, the Pike will still stay in close proximity to baitfish, so if you can find where they are concentrated, you will find the Pike. It's tough fishing, but if you succeed, you can rightfully have a glow of pride! good luck PS do be careful about taking a boat out on a swollen river, it can be very dangerous, take local advice before you venture out in floods. bank fishing may be your best option and even then you must be very careful with a swollen river. __________________ http://www.lurefishingdiary.blogspot.com

Re: Pike fishing in floods! Lamprey sections also give of a good blood / scent trail & i've heard the new fish bait called Bluey's give off even more, although i've not tried em yet.

Re: Pike fishing in floods! There are several wide channels off the main river in Wroxham with boat yards dotted along with moored boats, we hope to find the water will be less coloured here! if so, I think we won't be traveling far! You can normally catch roach, perch and Ruffe in those areas, Plan B is to also target perch with Lobs and chopped worm & Maggots. It might be a days roach fishing just to get a bend in the rod! ![]() Thanks for the advice lads ![]()

Re: Pike fishing in floods! i havn't done much fishing in flooded rivers , the pike will obviously keep well out of the main flow,as already mentioned back waters may be the answer but to be honest it may be a lot easier to fish a local stillwater where the pike are sure to be more interested in feeding

Re: Pike fishing in floods! Hi, still been raining on and off here, but have had a look at the river yesterday, some colour but seemed fishable! Reading the evening News I've seen that theres been a 20 pounder out and some doubles out further down the river! My confidence is alot higher, all i can do is get out there, the smelt Joeys and lamprey are packed and with any luck i may have something of report! Will
