Boat Fishing for Pike

Good Morning!

The brother in law has just bought a rowing type boat to use to go pike fishing (advantage of a rich brother in law!!!). He has asked me to go Pike fishing with him. Now I have been Pike fishing for years but only ever from the bank, Any hints or tips on how to make best use of the one the boat opportunity? or any diffeent techniques that need to be used with this style of fishing. (will be fishing on the Broads)

thanks in advance.

Re: Boat Fishing for Pike

you lucky devil,i for one would not change tactics at all,i would stick to tried and tested methods and use the boat to take you to all the lovely fishy looking spots that are out of reach from the bank
have a great time and i look forward to your reports

Re: Boat Fishing for Pike

get yourself a depth sounder and make a map of the intended fishing area, you are sure to find some nice gullies to troll a lure through

Re: Boat Fishing for Pike

Give the boat yards in Wroxham a look if your out that way, me and my mates have had our best pike fishing there, biggest being 20lb and some upper doubles. I'd Try a small roach or Gudgeon livebait aswell for the perch. theres lots shoaled up there this time of year, i've had them to just over 2lb but have lost a bigger one! You can get bites all day on float fished maggot and worms most times depending on the weather, so you can usually get some livebaits. not fished there this winter yet but I will be out there sometime over christmas i hope. Best of luck

Re: Boat Fishing for Pike

Our first trip out will be at a boat yard in stalham top of the river ant, caught a fair few from the bank upto 10lb but I think the boat will give us more options.
