River Pike rod

Hi all,

New to the forum, so hello everyone. I've been looking for a good river piking rod now for ages & wondered if any one here can help.
I would like it to be 11' - 12' with a good through action & a test curve of around 2 - 2 1/4 lb with a full cork handle & screw reel seat.... call me old fashioned but you can't beat the feel of cork. Been looking but all I can find are great deadbaiting beasts with abbreviated handles and wouldn't bend if you hooked the QE2!

Any help greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Nic

Re: River Pike rod

hello mate,welcome to the forum

i can help you if you want one of the more modern rods
but the older classic rods with cork handles are a little out of my league, i have until a few years ago always made my own pike rods,
i presume you are looking for a mk 4 avon or something similar,
e bay might be worth a visit

Re: River Pike rod

you could always buy a good quality bass rod, use it for a bit of piking and then use it for some proper fishing in the sea just a thought

Fox Warrior ES 12ft - 3.00lb

Hi mate have a look at this rod not price but great for lobbing dead bait out and genral pike . I have 3 and they just do the job fine ( although there carp rods)

Quote:
Fox Warrior ES 12ft - 3.00lb
The action of the ES runs through the tip and middle of the rod although under heavy pressure the blank will continue to bend right through to the butt without locking up. This marginally forward action makes the rod ideal for distance casting with leads up to 4ozs, PVA bags or small method feeders while still being suitable for safely playing large carp close in.

Re: River Pike rod

Thanks guy's I've looked at this rod & 3lb seems a bit heavy on the TC for what I want, really want something about 2 1/4 ish. Have looked on the net & found a Bass rod by Fladen called the maximus rockhopper plugger, looks good & very reasonably priced about 35 to 40 quid! anyone have any experience of it & who knows might get a bit of Bass fishing in!

Many thanks

Nic

Re: River Pike rod

I use Fox Warriors with 2.75 tc for carp and pike, you have the power to cast large dead baits and method feeders, but still a good action when playing fish close in etc.
