4-5inch trout , sunk/drawn or static on a set of snaps for me.

mainly bcause i could always get ahold of them fresh.
i worked on a trout farm.

lamprey / sprat / roach you just cannot go wrong if you have these three in your box , and dont be afraid ti float your bait off the bottom if thenigs are slow

i'm a great fan of herring and mackerel,usually cut in half to let all those juices out,
other then that,i always like using natural deads like roach and perch ,smelt,scad , sprat and lamprey have all caught a great many fish for me over the years,
blueys look like they have potential as well,they seem as oily as a mackerel and will undoubtably come into there own in the winter months when the fish are not so active
