bury hill revisited

well after what seemed like a lifetime of DIY and poor health i finally got my pike season underway, the venue was bury hill fishery in surrey for the forum 1/2 term predator hunt.
i turned out only myself and pingu turned up for the day but we certainly had a good social
it was a grey miserable day with little or no wind and persistant heavy drizzle,it wasn't cold,in fact we started fishing in our t shirts early on, ( forum t shirts of course )

after another of my now customary early starts ( don't ask baggie ! ) i eventually arrived at the lake at 0650 with dave soon after,
we decided on two adjacent pegs on what is known as the long bank and we were soon fishing,

the peace was broken before i had my third rod out with the buzzer going on my left hand rod baited with a small scad,a lively little 3lb blankbuster was soon unhooked and returned, perhaps we are in for a good day ? thought us.
well we tried hard but without any more bites, it was about 2-ish i think that the next action occured, firstly i had a stuttery sort of take on a legered sprat which was a jack of about 4lb

closely followed 5 minutes later with another jumpy take on a 1/2 mackerel which gave me a fiesty little 8 1/2 pounder,
hopefully this was going to be the start of a feeding spell.
all this time daves indicators remained motionless, he had in my opinion the best swim and he was putting his baits in good spots but they just didn't want to know today,
we stayed until the bitter end without so much as a bleep between us,rob dropped in for a chat just before we left but the sod cleared off before he was press ganged into carrying some of our gear to the cars.

it was a hard day but a good day,the company was special and i havn't laughed so much whilst fishing for a long time,
thanks a lot dave.

Re: bury hill revisited

have to say it was a blinder of a day despite the weather and poor fishing

we tried every bait we had either popped up or flat ledgered
the 3 fish were on flat ledgered baits
weather was funny as was warmest before 9 as you can see by being in teeshirts when paul had his first

the wind that was arround never did any damage or shift the cloud but
bury hill can be a beautifull setting and even in the all day mist that came down had a great feel too it

as for the banter well it was pee talke all day and as for the txt whilst using facilities
but let him off after the bacon butties

too be honest the whole lake seemed quiet and we only saw / heard 2 other runs all day,

another good day on what is definately a hard water , but i guess i'll be back as ever

cheers paul for all the advise ( espec in live baiting the perch we found in the crayfish trap) hear your journey home was a nightmare so thanks again

me well it took a couple of pints with a friend too warm up later

dave

It was great to see you both! Yes I did bugger off, but the missus was waiting for her dinner! Let's get together soon, I need some practice for France!
