Re: Making a wire trace for pike fishing

Would it be possible to use some kind of wire other than the shop bought rig wire as I have got tons of wire at home loth to give the the shop money when I have something at home that would do the same job

Shop bought wires have been tested for breaking strains etc and are designed for the purpose they have been sold,Most quality wires will not cost more than £6 and will make you enough traces to last a season, take a look at the Fox carbo flex in 30-40lb bs,this will stand you in good stead m8.
The last thing you want is to hook a pike and have a wire snap leaving trebles and trace in fish is a no no.

Re: Making a wire trace for pike fishing

peakoverload, yeh you have a valid point but you will find that by not fixing the top treble that when you cast out the pressure on the bottom treble will force the upper trebble down the trace wire and you will find that your bait will end up in a ball on the lakebed/river, the only time you can get away with it is when your deadbaits are frozen solid. it doesnt make sense but try it.

Re: Making a wire trace for pike fishing

thanx for the tip the glue makes sense, but instead of crimp covers i use heat shrink available from any good electrical outlets(maplin) makes a nice tidy cover for the top treble .
