Thumbs up I now believe in de ja vu

well with the leaves now turning that wonderfull autumn gold
and the mists arriving (and others now talking pike and needing a tackle shakedown/check before bury hill) I could resist the urge no more

yesterday i had spent a while along canal to find an area clear of the horrid duck weed that chokes it ( above double locks all clear but v busy walkers etc so went lime kilns as usual)
found the end of bank 1st bend at the lime kiln was ok so groundbaited with some old sandeel and makkie chopped up(from sea trips)

headed off this morning and arrived at 6.30am to a comfortably warm(just in forum teeshirt) flat still and weeded up area but i had baited and wanted to try

after 1 hour and 20lb weed i gave up and walked along to find a new clear spot up near the moorings (until the rushes die back there arent as many access spots to canal) there was some weed but was only hugging edge no more than 3ft out from bank, Not a problem i thought
there were also lots of fry in water

so set up rods and went for the long haul as it seemed like here or no where with weed

now heres a spooky/weird bit

last night i was thinking about how to play out today and had in my mind that i would catch a fish whilst listening to new Cult Cd, not a believer in De Ja Vu but read on

had been listening too radio all morning then at just before 12 I decided to settle down with coffee and butty and enjoy the dolcet tones of Ian Astbury and awsome guitar of Billy Duffy( The Cult) to blast out the earwax

just got too track 3 when bang!!! off went left rod with whole makkie head just out past weed in margins (spooky ????)

well this ended up being a huge battle as the fish went straight into the weed , which had now built up, twice i got the fish out and twice he went back in, eventually i got his head up above the weed carpet and netted him along with 10lb weed

duly unhooked and klinked where he had ripped jaw on trace a pleasing 9lber

carried on till 2 but no more bleeps or anything just buckets more weed
even tried playing the album again

a nice day and good start, really need a frost now to kill weed

be back after 1/2 term

dave

That's one fat looking pike. Boy do I hate duck weed too. All the best, we may have seen the last of seasons as we used to know them.
