going out with a flourish

it had to come, the last days piking for me this season,
there will be no pics with this report, some numpty while unhooking a pike at the waters edge let his camera drop in the drink, they don't like that sort of treatment do they ??

it all started quite routinely with the usual alarm going off at 0300 and on the bank by 4,
everything was quiet until i had a take on a float fished roach at 0730 which resulted in a little one of about 4lb,another of the same size follwed an hour later this time on a half mackerel, things were looking good when i hooked another this time of about 7lb on the same half mackerel.this one succeeded in giving me a nasty cut on my finger and while i was trying to take a pic whilst trying to stem the rivers of blood the camera ( still in its case ) fell in the drink

order was soon restored but the sport tailed off,not a murmer for 2 hours,i noticed some gulls and grebes busying themselves a couple of hundred yards away and found out there was an enormous shoal of fry slowly being decimated by predators above and below the surface, time to move thought i !!
i was comfy in my new spot by 11.30 and at 12 had a short drop back on another half mackerel placed under a far bank tree,
this one went a very nice 14lb 8oz ,manged to get a pic on my phone but i cant put it on here ,can i ??
i quickly got that rod back out to the same spot this time baited with a mackerel head and it went almost straight away,it gave such a dramatic drop off that it was almost under my feet before i contacted it,this one went 13lb 2oz ,it swam off a lot happier after i took out 2 other sets of snap tackles out of its dentures
half an hour later one of my other rods which had done nothing all day shot off at a rate of knots and i soon landed what was to be the last fish of the day at 5lb or so,
as is often the case in these swims it died a death fior the rest of the afternoon without so much as a bleep

a nice way to finish the season,7 fish ,2 doubles

my pike season has been a good one,no real crocs but 20+ doubles can't be bad,one thing i didn't mention which was in the back of my mind since early february,i didn't record a single blank all winter,i don't think i have done that before ,it goes to prove what a great pike water it is and i can't wait to get on it next october to let the battle begin again.

Re: going out with a flourish

Well done on the fish Paul, been a cracking season for you.

I hope you took the batteries out of the camera as soon as you got it out of the water, the electronics in phones and cameras do not like power on them when wet, let it dry naturally and slowly and it may well survive and be usable.

And yes you can get pictures off the phone camera onto the PC, either by cable or blue tooth, or if you have it on the memory card and reader you can take the card out of the phone and put it in the reader.

Maybe time to get a water proof camera.

Re: going out with a flourish

Nice one mate... Cracking session and one hell of a season... Not many (if any) can say they've not had a blank all winter. Top angling.

Well done Paul.
