Re: gun club I love to shoot... Nice gun pixy, I'd love to have a nice PCP! But with English regulations, isn't that illegal? I shoot a Benjamin 392, Gamo 220, and a whole slew of all types of airguns around the house (I have a PCP Crosman Pistol, the 116 I believe, from the 1950's that was realyl fun until the seals dried out...I have a Gamo CO2 powered pistol, a couple of BB guns...and a .22 LR Rifle and Pistol (Ruger and Smith & Wesson, respectively). I love guns with all my heart, but I stick to airguns mainly for the time being because I can shoot them without an adult present (need an adult for powder-burner shooting here in the states). and in the next couple of weeks I'm buying an IZH Drozd...a 6-shot burst BB gun with a 30 round magazine and it's CO2 powered...hehe can't wait I'm an airgun nut

| Re: gun club Hi Ben, I am in know way an expert, but I have to shoot pigeons where I work. The only way to kill them with one shot is to hit them on the head, otherwise the pellets just seem to bounce off them. I use an old BSA, and pop them off at about 20 - 30 metres. That gun of Pixies looks awesome. How much would a similar one cost Pixie? Cheers Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold Last edited by Drew; 07-02-2005 at 09:10 AM. | Re: gun club Hi Jim, A full UK power (12ft/lbs) air rifle will stop the biggest pigeon with a chest shot, even if the crop is full. I use a .177 PCP with Bisley Pest Control pellets. Dont use pointed pellets, they'll go straight through a pigeon without doing enough damage to kill it instantly, round head pellets sometimes do it too. The Bisleys have a large hollow point and they do expand even at the pathetic UK power levels, although they're not as accurate as a quality round head (for ultimate accuracy recommend JSB Exacts if you can find them). Interestingly and surprisingly the hollow points make considerably more noise when they hit the pigeon, i didn't expect that. If these fail ask Smoothy if you can borrow his .308, a near miss will kill a pigeon but you will need a 2 foot thick concrete backstop and ear defenders. ps/ hows the tip ring ? __________________ Blessed are the Cheese Makers...... |

Re: gun club Hi Brian, Thank you for the information. I bought the gun, second hand complete with sights for £10. When I bought the pellets, fron our local fishing tackle shop, he gave me pointed pellets and told me that they were the best for the job. However when I first used them, after setting the sights, the pigeon flew off, although I had hit it.(Feathers everywhere) That was when I was told to hit it on the head or up its backside. The head was easier. Since then I've killed hundreds. I will try and find a source for the pellets that you recommend. Cheers Drew __________________ All that Glitters is not Gold

Re: gun club Hi Guys, Its been some time since this thread was started and I've had a few mods done to the gun on the front page. Had a new match grade trigger fitted, and some nice new shiney bits. I suppose I've its now cost me just over £1000. As for the pigeon shooting well its best to get them in the head for a clean kill, a body shot should not even come into the equasion. As for phesants its got to be a guaranteed head kill or dont take the shot. As for pellets, the pointed ones dont fly very well so I use FT pellets like the Exacts as already mentioned. __________________ If you cant catch em-SHOOT EM Air Arms EV2-Competition http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/3815/dscf00397bo.jpg Air Arms S410-Hunter http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/4...60751566nw.jpg

Re: gun club I would love to publish a picture of my Colt Python 357 Magnum revolver but unfortunately our government and mr plod decided they all had to be handed in and destroyed. At least I got £450 for it which is £50 more than I paid for it. __________________ Fruit? - That's what keeps me going.

Re: gun club .357 ? That's a junior calibre ! I still miss my S&W 629, 686, Model 52, CZ75, Walther PP. And gun crime has gone up since they made me sell all these. Now I hear there's talk of a ban on kitchen knives over a certain length to stop domestic murders. I'm sure air rifles are going to get it soon as well as catapaults, crossbows and longbows. Maybe we'll have to use rubber balls for weights too, in case we decide to cast them at someone..... Apparently the most common murder weapon in the UK is the screwdriver, so I guess we'll soon see a lot of unemployed carpenters and electricians. ps/ Pixy......nice gun. __________________ Blessed are the Cheese Makers......

Re: gun club bang on pellet conversation! like the man ill op for a round head or a hollow tip at close range! with birds its about shock value. smack it in the chest with a flat nose and it will go down (crow family anyway) with the doves/pigieons etc you will need some penertration! (to get into the chest cavity) 177 hollow top is ideal! head shots on a bird is a mugs game! ive allways used 22. air but like has been said before it can just bounce off and leave a very bruised dieing bird!! not good not in my book anyway! ps. ive found the so called hunting tips look the biz to a newby but ther rubbish! you need to creat a SMACK! bring it down fast! hollow tips all the way for me as far as small vermin go! __________________ SCUPPER A COMMERCIAL TOOOO DAY!
