| Ellen Macarthur Hi folks, Not wanting to detract from the terrible news of the countries suffering the effects of the tsunami, I wish to draw your attention to one of our finest and gutsiest sportswoman ever. For a few weeks now I have been following Ellen’s progress on her non stop single-handed record attempt to sail around the globe. Currently she is about half way and is in fact over two days ahead of Francis Joyon the current record holder and the only one who is in the race with her. To break the record she needs to finish by 09/02/05 07:04 Im sure Richard won’t mind posting a link for her website Team Ellen. It’s full of information and includes 3D animations, audio and video clips. | Re: Ellen Macarthur I worked briefly with Ellen, as she moved from dinghy sailing into bigger boats. The company had a works "fun day out sailing" Ellen was it charge of an open sixty, a pure racing machine, she challanged two office girls to winch the mainsail up faster than her, to her credit she did put it into low gear for them, herself top, (winch was double handed) They had no chance. She did it in half the time. Now another single handed record attempt, facing god knows what. All this from a woman just over five foot tall and slightly built. Good luck to her. |
