New fishing competition in Norway

Theres a new competition being fished in Norway. The Shimano Light Tackle Cup.
The Light Tackle Cup took place back in July this year. It was sponsored by Europe’s biggest fishing magazine “BLINKER” and tackle giant “SHIMANO” who put together a great prize table.

The contest was fished from the 10 till the 15 of July. As we all arrived there the weather was great but the forecast was not good. We fished a couple of trips back to back with just a meal and a refuelling stop in between. Slept, fished another trip and then the storm came. We managed a trip or two out amongst the islands which is where Olaf Beneke got his winning cod and on the last day we managed another trip. However it was too rough to fish effectively so after a couple of fish we headed home. The big deal about the light tackle cup is that SHIMANO gave every angler 500 m Tiagra Braid. The nice thing about this braid is that it’s Dacron which is thicker than the more modern gel-spun braid, but has a little more stretch making it a little easier to bring in a big fish and it breaks at exactly 12 lb. This is important if you want to claim a world record. The men’s 12 lb record for coalfish is 17.65 kg. We often get fish over 18 kg here so we figured we had a chance, but as far as the record is concerned the weather beat us.

However, a good time was had by all. The fishing and the prizes made for so much fun that the tour is 50 % booked already for 2006. In 2006 the comp will be held from the 3rd – 12th of April. Any one in the UK wanting to come along can book with ANGLERS WORLD. Give them a call and they’ll sort you out. Continental anglers can contact ElchFerien.

The results:

1. Place: Olaf Beneke won first prize with a coalfish of: 13,6 kg, He won a 14 day all inclusive fishing holiday and a Beast Master outfit consisting of a Beast Master 30 lb class Rod and a Torium 30 reel with 1000 m Beast Master Line.

2. Place: Robin Baitler for the second biggest coalfish: 12,0 kg. Robin won a Technium 5000 Stationärrolle mit 500m 0,12mm Beast Master Braid and Beast Master Pirk-Light Rod – a perfectly balanced light tackle outfit.

Biggest Cod: Olaf Beneke 8,5 kg, Beast Master Pirk-Light Rod Olaf realy did clean up.

Biggest Fish of the contest (all-tackle) was: Ling, 24 kg, Kurt Gartmann Beast Master Pirk-Light Rod.

The biggest coalfish was caught by Michael the boat builder Moers….. (all-tackle): 15,5 kg, For this achievement he received a side of salmon.

The cup's being fished for again in 2006 but this time in April to capitalize an the huge shoals of big cod and coalfish around Hitra at this time.
