Talking Cod in Norway

Hi all,
I'm an english man now living in Norway about 2hrs drive SW of Oslo. Never been a fisherman of any sort. In Febuary this year, an uncle of my girlfriends gave me a rod/reel and a few basic bits and pieces to get me started.

Last night I was asked to go with a friend across to Stavern. I went. It was only my 2nd time. The first time I caught nothing (except nearly a cold. lol).

Last night was different!

My 1st cast out from the rocks and I got a bite. I couldn't believe it. As I reeled it in, I could feel it fighting a bit. I got it ashore to find it was a Cod about 18" long. We didn't have scales so we couldn't weigh anything. Anyway, it was the first of many.

In the 1 and 1/2 hours we were there, we caught about 10 Cod and as many Pollack(coal fish?).
In the end we were letting them go as we had too many to take home.

Having just had dinner of my fish, I am really happy that I have been converted to the joys of fishing. Cheap meals and the thrill of the hunt/catch.

As someone once said ....... I'll be back!

Re: Cod in Norway

I'm sure it will be the first of many. Fishing is one of the main past-times here. The particular spot we were at must be a very good place as brother in law goes there regularly. Last time he was there, he caught over 20 fish. The same night a friend was nearby with 2 mates. they took home 7 shopping bags of them.

For those that say they want to come, it's cheap if you fly over from Stansted in London to Oslo (Torp) with Ryanair. Average return trip is £50 - £60. Can be a lot less if you catch one of the regular offers.

Sorry, dont mean to advertise, just trying to help.

Re: Cod in Norway

Varies a lot between about £10 camping to £100 in a hotel and several different things inbetween.

I could list some useful websites for those interested or if you want you can contact me personally.
