Arctic ice fishing(Norway)

Well i m back home now (thank god) to the warmth of a British global warmed winter.
The fishing in Norway didnt live up to expectations,i had plenty of Coddling but nothing over 6lb.
Whether my expectations were to high or i fished the wrong places i dont know .i suspect i was maybe a little to far inland up the fyjords, anyway it was still all good fun if not a triffle chilly
On the middle thursday we went ice diving at the top of the fyjord, the ice was about 40 cm thick after cutting a large triangle out with a chain saw we did a few dives ,sounds crazy but when the air temp was -18 its just a pleasure to get into the water at 2c.

Well on the friday we had the day off and for a change three of us decided to have a bash at ice fishing.
Not owning a chain saw we headed to the area we had dived to fish the diving holes.
Bait was king prawns as i couldnt get squid for love or money whilst tacke was three light rods with two hook flapper rigs and small hooks to match.

On arriving it was nice to note the day was a lot warmer and the temp had rissen to a balmy -12
The sea water in the holes from the day before had frozen solid to about 4 inches thick but after hacking away for a while with a spade we dug out 3 holes and started fishing.
Bites came straight away and as expected they turned out to be small Coddling.

My two mates were chuffed no matter what the size as it was there first ever fish (i can think of mopre pleasent places to fish for the first time )
Well we managed to stay at it for about three hours catching about a score of coddling with the biggest about 2lb ,a few whiting and a loveley Dab caught by Jona.
I must opologise for the lack of fish pics but we were all very reluctant to hold the fish to long for fear of frost bite, wimps
Heres a few more pics-
Monster Cod getting unhooked

Every fishermans nightmare-ice in your ring

Crouching fisherman ,hidden Cod

If you like standing about shivering ,half frozen ,with your fingers turning numb everytime you bait up whilst pulling the ice off you eye lashes then give ice fishing a go,its great
