Cool Seaham Hall / Ryhope

me and dad picked sid up at about 2:45 and set off for seaham hall beach, aiming to fish 2 hours up and the rest down, but on the way we saw the North Arm was PACKED, we were excited cos we thought it meant loads of fish were being caught. well no, when we got to the beach and found it packed to the rafters as well, we realised there must be something on, and a helpful passer - by told us that it was the Ryhope Society Match. no wonder...there was hundreds of people there!

so we went to a place a bit down the road where there was a 50-60 yd stretch of blank beach. this place looked very familiar to a picture i had seen on Paul's myspace (upnorth1), on top of the cliffs there were 4 or 5 people fishing and it looked almost identical to where his photo was.

there was a northerly blowing and a nice swell on, not too big, not too flat.

so i baited up with a top hook bait of squid and macky and a bottom hookbait of 3 or 4 lazy lug and hoyed it out aboot 80-90 yards. sid put on a squids head and had it out at about 60-70, and dad (hunting for cod) put on macky, a whole squid and 2 rag on a pulley pennel rig and chucked it out about 100 yards.

Nothing much to talk about until dad thinks hes into a monster when he strikes and theres a solid lump on the end...yes there was...a part of the beach. an old man walking by walking his dog let us know AFTER dad had snapped off that there were some huge rocks out from where we were, thats why the beach was empty there. How funderful.

when it turned dark everyone, including the hundreds of matchmen, thought thw hities were going to come on the feed, but after 2 hours of darkness, and wind and rain that had arrived, there still was no fish on the beach. we thought that the fish had had their chance and it was time to go. so we went at about 6:45, about a 4 hour session, with the only thing landed, this majestic weedfish. (any points for that? )

we werent doing anything wrong, as the blank affected loads of others on the beach as well, lady luck just wasnt on our side. i think we shall wait until the northerlys have been blowing for a while until we go again, and go off a pier as well.
