Competition in Bridlington

On the 3rd December two colleagues and I are fishing the North Beach, Bridlington in a National competition. Can anybody give us a clue as to what baits work well and what we are likely to catch.

Thanks.

Hello mate,usual baits will work,blow lug,yellows etc.
Would have thought whiting and dab will be the main stay with the odd coddling.

Re: Competition in Bridlington

Thanks for all the ideas guys, I will let you all know how I get on next week.
Hopefully catch plenty and have a few beers after otherwise bit of a wasted journey all the way from Deal.

Re: Competition in Bridlington

I fished the competition. Lots of weed, and even more weed. Lost more traces than a tackle shop sells all year. Out of 50 anglers, only 3 fish caught. Looks to be a great venue otherwise. A local said he had never seen anything like it for over 20 years. I was standing on a seaweed platform almost 2 feet thick, and at my feet were some huge crabs, some with their pincers bound, together with the odd lobster. There must have been a holding tank out at sea, and the storm must have bust it open. There were pieces of seaweed with stems as fat as tree trunks just rolling in the surf, forming a huge dark mass. We just could not get our line in after the cast. One person bust his rod, and others were running out of line. I switched to 60lb braid, and even that was not tough enough to do the job. Lots of ale afterwards to end a great weekend.

Re: Competition in Bridlington

Have to totally agree with Muzzer, what a disaster. It was made more annoying knowing that a comp. fishing the same day, held less than a mile away from where I live in Deal was won with 72 fish in 5 hours. Now thats fishing. Myself and colleagues are organising comp. for 2007, probably be the same area. That's as long as all fish aren't caught by then. Also beer and food was quality.
