Bass ???

Heard a whisper on the angling grapevine that a few bass had been showing, so got myself out last night.

Conditions, fresh northerly breeze, and the sea conditions were perfect. Went to a beach at Seaham, looked nice, so got the buddy up, and set two rods away, one with ragworm, and the other with crab. Two hooks clipped on each rod.

Trouble is this time of year, the summer weed that grows on the rocks gets washed off if any sort of sea picks up. This made fishing really difficult. With two 525 mags and light line and leader - this was just no good, so removed them two reels for another two with 30lb. straight through with no leader. Now I know what you're thinking, but I'm fishing for bass and I'm not kablamming it, and there's no other anglers around me - so it's all under control and safe! The heavier line and no leader definately did the trick, making winding in easier, but it's really heavy work, and after landing and returning 2 bass to around a pound, I decide to move. Ok, I caught 2, but I didn't even know they were on due to the weed, thats not fun. Moved to a local prom, 1hr before high water now. Just gonna use 1 rod as there are a few punters down, noticing that there wasn't too much weed around, light line and leader again. Two crab baits swishhhhed away! After 5 mins The rod starts to knock, slack - ummm, this doesn't feel like a bass - double shot of whiting !! oh well, nuther two crab baits go out. Within a minute, the rod is knocking and then slack - another two whiting !! July 30th and there's whiting on the beaches already! Another two chucks and 4 whiting later I'm calling it a day, it's never stopped raining for 5hrs.

No big bass, but still caught, no-one likes a blank card!!

Re: Bass ???

Hi M8

The bass are at Bridlington.... i've just got back and had a great time.. Fished over the pier wall using a Hockeye trace (very-very small macky trace) to catch some fresh whitebait..... hooked it up whilst its still kicking and cast out a short distance.. Rod in hand .. short time later and .. BANG BANG..Caught several but only kept 2 big ones for the pan, and got snapped clean off twice on 15lb line. Everyone arround me was trying every bait they could get their hands on but to no avail.. The bass where there for one thing... the white bait. Mabee thats why you missed out on the bass?? Anyway glad to see you didn't blank ....

Catchya........
Olde Danny...
