North Shields Fish Quay

Went fishing the Tyne from North Shields fish quay on Saterday evening, caught 3 coalfish and one whiting all small in size except for the last coalfish, which was just over a pound. I find that the fish quay is great for getting straight into deep water but have fished there many times and have never caught anything of decent size. Have been using a running ledger rig with a size 5/0,6/0 or 7/0 hook on, and lugworm, squid, mussels and mackerel for bait, tying on all bait with cotton. Got some massive hit on my rod as did quite a few other fisherman on Saterday but was not lucky enough to catch whatever was making them. Has anyone caught any Cod recently or heard of any being caught from the river?

i mate a few being caught on the pier in the 4-7lb region and the pedestrian tunnel on the scum side is a very good spot too

Cheers mate, am gona try a night fish beside the ice house on friday, see what that brings, hopefully a 10 pound cod ha better chance of winning the euromillions a reckon!

Nice catch, is that a pb, might give the tunnel a try on Sunday if a catch nowt decent on the friday
