Open Sweepstake Last Night....

Hi guy's, fished a 3hr open sweepstake last night. As it was heaviest single fish only, decided to target a cod!

The conditions were horrendous, fishing into a strong southerly gale. Decided against the rod tripod, and opted to hold the rod for bites.

First cast into the breakers and no problems! check the watch, mmm, been out there 20 mins - was that a knock? yep, bit more time, slack!! - reel and wind into it - codling 2lb 11oz. Well thats a good start!

Second chuck - great, no problems again (magnets full on in this wind). Checking the tide, it's flying out, this southerly gale is helping this big ebb fly away. Slack line - mmm, interesting! - tighten up and wait. Bang! the rods just pulled away, great bite - reel down and wind into it - codling 3lb. 9oz. Strooth, it's only 8pm, got 2 codling out and theres still 2hrs to go.

The winds picked right up now and I'm running out of water!! no more bites. Mobile rings - "you got owt Paul?" - telling my mate I've got 2 out and then he tells me "there's a fish about 8lbs on the beach, and another around 4lb."

Oh well, I finished 3rd, and still enjoyed the session, despite the conditions...

Cool Re: Open Sweepstake Last Night....

Well done Paul on two counts:

1. Fishing in attrocious conditions and getting bites

2. Coming third in a match

Shows its skill not luck eh!

Others would probably have blanked!

Re: Open Sweepstake Last Night....

Jammy sod, the nearest I ever come to a cod is from the chippy. I dream of catching a cod maybe from Hurst point eh?
