Message For Treeman Re: Roker Pier In Sunderland...

Hi Mate, just got your message as been really busy..

Roker Pier is not a bad shot, but in my opinion is one of the worst marks to choose for fishing in Sunderland.

...agreed, it's handy and comfortable, but believe me, the punters who use it, are more of a nuicence than anything else (harsh I know, but just my opinion!), thats why I travel to BETTER marks, to catch BETTER fish!

...and all really not that far from what we affectionately call "Joker Pier"

Next time you're in my neck of the woods, just e-mail me, and i'll provide the bait, and take you to some excellent marks, depending on conditions.

I GUARENTEE you'll catch codling to 5lb.+ !!! no kidding !!!

...And by the way, the round head of the pier is NOT the best mark on the there,,,a place called 'The Barrier' has better ground for codling! ... and if there are any breakers running onto the beach, you only need travel THIRTY yards along the pier, cast behind the breakers and bingo...you'll be into fish when everyone else is walking past you!!.... and as for the RATTY,,well all I can say is it's only worth a bait when the sea is really heavy and unfishable on the exposed marks, other than that, the best word to describe it is CRAP!

...They don't call Rat House Corner for nothing mate !!!

Look forward to hearing from you..

Re: Message For Treeman Re: Roker Pier In Sunderland...

the reason i mentioned the roundhead was because thats the best place in my opinion to catch fish yes treeman wanted to catch cod but you should no theres very little in the way of cod in the sunderland area unless the local tackle shops and clubs are telling lies so i mentioned thje roundhead as i didnt know when hed be coming regarding tides and what have you i just didntg like the idea of someone driving for three hours and going home empty handed he still caught cod and whiting and coalies so his trip was not wasted so my advice worked for him

Re: Message For Treeman Re: Roker Pier In Sunderland...

Good on ya Dazza, your dead right what you're saying, and I totally agree with ya, all I did was add some more input mate!

Nice to have lots of options don't you think?

I didn't try to terrorise your post mate, we all have opinions on different marks, I'm sure you'll agree? I have a mark I fish locally, where no one goes, and I regularly catch codling, bass, literally hundreds of whiting, the odd flounder etc. and it's a mark I keep to myself, not even my best angling buddy knows it!

Hope that clears the air a bit mate.

keep catchin...

Got to disagree with you on a couple of things paul. The Roundhead IS the best mark on the pier. Yes the barrier has the ground, but doesn't have the tide run the roundhead has. I've fished it for years and had over a dozen fish over 6lb off it, 4 over 9lb, best 11-8-0. The barrier is best either side of low water, on a medium tide.

As for being a nuicence for fishing it, thats a bit strong. I tend to go on when others don't, ie when its ideal codling conditions. Yes, there are some nuggets who get on, but we were all there ourselves - including you paul, when you were a young budding match angler - wasn't it Sunderland Shipbuilders club you used to be in?

To sum up, I'm basically saying don't bad mouth a mark that you've never given the same amount of time and effort as you have to the Ryhope marks, and especially DON'T bad mouth the people who fish there.
