As for being a nuicence for fishing it, thats a bit strong. I tend to go on when others don't, ie when its ideal codling conditions. Yes, there are some nuggets who get on, but we were all there ourselves - including you paul, when you were a young budding match angler - wasn't it Sunderland Shipbuilders club you used to be in?

To sum up, I'm basically saying don't bad mouth a mark that you've never given the same amount of time and effort as you have to the Ryhope marks, and especially DON'T bad mouth the people who fish there.
Hi Dave...sorry mate, didn't mean to bad mouth the people of Roker Pier - just every time I'm on there I seem to get bothered. People see you catching fish and WHAM they're on ya back!! Some fella came beside me and started whacking a lead around with, what seemed to be 18 or 20lb. line - when I tried to tell him the importance of leaders etc - he just wolfed me with a load of abuse! I wasn't trying in any shape or form to patronise this guy, just lend a hand, give a little advice - but was he having it? WAS HE HELL! Who the f*** was I to tell him what to do?? So, when I politely asked him to go and whack a 6oz. lead elsewhere, lets just say he wasn't best pleased. I know what you're saying about RP, the roundhead is good (you've proved it - i've seen the reports of your fish mate!!!), it's just again, the punters, they do your head in. I'm not a selfish guy, but when they turn up in their packs with a packet of 'raggy' and a fillet of 'macky' and lets not forget the 24 cans of lager and a dollop of 'dope', then the stereo starts belting some 100 mph beat - god, it's time give Roker Pier a miss! I know that they're just a minority, and the majority are quality guy's doing a bit of fishing - but I'm afraid that small minority does it for me!
Sorry if I caused any upset or insulted anyone who uses Roker Pier - there was no malice intended, and I hang my head in shame .
Incidentally, everything would be fine, if the likes of The Lane, The Low Drum, Mixer etc were still open - I stopped going on when the fines started being issued, but I'm toying with the idea of using it again, as I heard on weekends it's packed again. I wrote a few letters to the Echo, but no one backs you up, so just basically wasted my time. I feel that there are enough anglers in Sunderland to 'make a noise', so why don't we??
Anyway, good to hear from you Dave, look forward to your next double from the pier, as you ALWAYS get one round about xmas time!!!!!!
By the way, I had nine codling to 7lbs from the manholes on the last south easterlies we had - and yes it was Sunderland Shipbuilders, god thats a long time ago!!! In the Ryhope Club now, but thinking about chucking it in to just concentrate solely on the match circuit again - I miss it...SAMF team challenges in Belguim, England Squad weekends etc...but when no one travels to matches or has the commitment EVERY weekend, it's a lonely business and the driving does me in...
Take care.....and tight lines....
Paul

Davyred is on a distinguished road
Re: Message For Treeman Re: Roker Pier In Sunderland...

No bother Paul. I know what you mean about Roker at times though. Like I said, I prefer to be down when only the die hards are out, and tend to bite the bullet if I've got to fisha match in Daylight on there. One thing though, why do people set up rod rests on the Roundhead FFS

I seen your letters in the Echo about the South pier/docks, and wrote one myself, but I think its like banging your head against a wall now. I've heard myself that people are still getting to both places, but I've also heard of the police escorting people off the south with the promise of prosecution.

As for the match fishing, I joined a club last year, first one for 20 years since Sunderland Sea Anglers !! I've started to enjoy it again. Still fish quite a few of the matches in SW Scotland (sure I've seen you there a couple of times), but I still love my pleasure fishing, just going out when everything is right and waiting for that lunker lol

Anyway, thanks for the reply Paul, good to still you stil getting fish down Ryhope way. To be honest, I wouldn't know where to start down there, I think I've fished the area twice in my life!!

Take care mate.

Davy
