Red face Re: Going codding tonight...

This may sound like a stupid question but what are yellow tails please ?

Also Smoothie I went to Veals the other day and they had plenty of live peelers but I didnt get any - are they much good around the Bristol Channel cause I thought worm and squid was the best bait ?

If I get any next time can you tell me how I put them on the hook - only ever used frozen peelers so havent got a clue when they are alive and ready to bite !!

Sorry for the lack of knowledge but if you can help thanks !

Hi Tommy,

Yellow Tail question answered already.

The only time I have outfished Squid and Worm was for Smoothounds. When its really hard fishing peeler may give you the edge... but Cod that come in close will eat what is available... Severn Beach ...Lug worm and Rag... New Passage same again. I use squid a a tipping bait for extra scent. But last sunday I got some extra Cod from using Fresh Peeler. So it does work on Cod. But save the pennies mate and stick to the tried and tested. It does not always mean you will catch Cod.

Am going to post something on peeler soon, cos its a FAQ here on the forum.

Bugger me!!! It sounds like you guys have got the best Codding in the country, bar none .... I must get myself up to the North East to have a go - sounds fantastic. Had a trip up to Seaham last year to get my car painted, but never thought to take my rod - instead took the missus sightseeing in Durham area (very nice) ... What-a-mistaka-to-makea!

How long does the season last with you? I'm sure I can find a window somewhere!!

Best of luck tonight, btw.

Cheers,
JB.

Paul, hope it went well!

John, that area was blinding for cod in the 80's when I started fishing as a kid. I lived in a colliery village and brought home buckets of them. Sadly, it has got worse since then, thanks to the commercials

Rob
