Good morning mateys, off to give the Humber a try this afternoon, just west side of Grimsby. Hoping for some dover soles, not hoping for small whitings, will report later.

Good luck Stan, Hope you catch a load! We get Dover Sole here in the Bristol Channel during the summer, they aren't easy to catch, but well worth it when you do, cos they taste lovely, and freeze well.

Re: fishing R/Humber Yep, Dover sole were about the only thing reported in my area other than strap conger and the odd ray this summer. Definately difficult to catch though, had loads of bites on each occasion I fished but not one landed!

Re: fishing R/Humber yeah i think the tactic with the sole is to scale right down. i use a size 6 hook with ragworm as bait. smelly old lugworm is a killer aswell and they come closer and get more confident during darkness. not as many here in swansea as further upriver by you guys but we do have some marks near Port Talbot and Im sure there are a few down Gower - just need to target them.
