well yeah long time no see everyone and thanks for all of the birthday comments, all much appreciated, and i shall serve up a nice little report for you all as my way of sayin Cheers!

well as dad has already said, shop said well close at 5, got there at half 4, and its shut! no fresh live bait, lovely!

so we raced to another shop that shuts at 5, got there at 4:58 and just got some squid macky mussel and frozen blacks by the skin of our teeth!

so because of all this we didnt get fishing until about 6, and when we did we decided on the Middleton (well, i did, birthday boy and all that carry on

)

the sea had a fair swell on but nothing too rough, just enough to hear the boom and crash on the breakwater and watch the white water which is always tres bien as they say in france...wind was blowing though, S-SW with gusts of up to 35mph

not much to report to be honest, a 5 nd a half pound cod was caught earlier on in the daylight hours, and a 7 pounder from the Heugh, with coalies and whities coming up now and then

seemed the fishing was at the top and bottom of the tide, not in between, and with low water at 8, we fished 6-10pm, so we expected an alright session

odds and sods throughout, little tap here, false bite there, most of which would INEVITABLY have been crabs!

it got to around 9:30 and we decided on a last cast, having blanked again (or so we thought)

and i took a decisive action and somehow managed to get a small fillet of macky on a size 1 hook, and a whole squid on the other (lots of bait elastic used here) and belted it out into the dredged channel for the marina.

and as luck would have it, just as i was about to wind in, my rod tip gave a merry jig and bang! into a nice pound and a half Whiting

its taken 16 years, but ive finally caught a fish on my birthday! 1.5 points to the Northern Bulls, S'il Vous Plait
