Re: R.Humber fishing.

Hi stan, glad its not just me catching whiting,

Went out on boat on sunday off whitely bay....we musta had a 100 and plenty of makerel to go with them.Only managed one small codling which went back for next year!

the wind was attrocious and kept us within 1/2 mile of the shore in the lee of the cliffs, in fact we had been out an hour when an all points came on radio warning of force 8 !!! (about 1 hour after harbour was too empty to go in ) so we had to stick it out.

Highlight of the trip was returning early to find the harbour still too low to land so we went about 200 yards out , dropped anchor and fished mackerel and managed two flatties about 1lb a piece. Its something we have never done before ...but we will certainly try again with a bit of worm on next time :)

Re: R.Humber fishing.

Hi Davern,
Best boat fishing i ever did with rod that is was when i was on oil rig support vessels. Always plenty o f fish around the oil rigs some quite large cod as well. We always used mackerel as bait and some times squid if we came across any. I did one time took some lugworm away with me but caught nothing with that at all.
Right up north near the Thistle oil rig we ued to jig for large ling and monkfish. I have known divers take spear fish with them for the monkfish when out of diving bells.
.............. Stan
