Cool Old Jetty/Middleton 25/3/07

Good morning sports fans! Apologies for the late report, i have just recovered enough from some kind of nasty bug to sit here, i was stuck in bed yesterday.

Well as planned we set off at about 3 to go and get some rag and sandeel (we already had squid and macky) and got to the beach past the wine bar, but just before the piers, with a little jetty thing sticking out of it at about 4 o clock. set up and chucked it into the surf within 10 minutes

pretty uneventful, we thought it was a bite on dads rod (left hand side) but it was just his lead pulling free in the surf.

Then at about 5 o clock, dad thought "ey up, whats that?" struck, and wound in a nice plump 3 bearded rockling! more points!

pretty uneventful again until we decided to move to the middleton, in search of deeper water. were gonna go to the heugh but there was a match on so it was packed, as was the steetley. set up and cast out within 10 minutes again.

Now this was a lot more interesting, within 5 minutes, i had two good knocks, and so did dad. for an hour we kept getting these god hard knocks, then dad struck into something!

CRAB!

The lads fishing next to us were pulling in coalies like there was no tomorrow, so i looks at how far they were casting (me and dad were 60-90 yds out) and they werent casting at all but were dangling it down the side! so i did the same and first dangle, a beautiful double shot of coalies!! more points! felt like one huge fish but it wasnt to be lol.

It carried on like that for the rest of the night, and dad caught another rockling, which he was chuffed about and so we packed up and went home at 9:00pm, unfortunately, just as the whiteys were coming on the feed but we couldnt stay longer But we were still rather chuffed, with 3 pts and 6 fish between us, (me 4 coalies dad 2 rockling) and with dad catching something he has never caught before in years and years of fishing!

Re: Old Jetty/Middleton 25/3/07

You jammy git - both those fish are on my species wants list ..... although I think I had a Coalie last year in Scotland but didnt know what it was so threw it back ... too small to count in the competition I was in ....

Nice looking Beach !

You can give me all the tips for later this year - have a comp (3 days) to the North of Newcastle - Seaton & Blyth ... or is that too far north ?

Re: Old Jetty/Middleton 25/3/07

Great report and the pics make me home-sick. Well done on the fish

Looks like coal is still being swept up on the beaches there, it's going to take another hundred years to clear it all, if at all.

Rob

Re: Old Jetty/Middleton 25/3/07

oh aye rob its like that at parton, seaton, twin steps, all over the place might go flatty bashing up at parton and take a few more snaps reminding you of home and maggy, its a bit far north for me but me nd dad would be able to make it, its only 45 mins up the road i reckon. paul might be able to help as well, and you should catch that coalie easy if you put ur heart and soul into it

That will probably be Seaton Sluice and Blyth Beaches...?

What match is it mate? I aint seen that one on the calender...?

If you need any tips mate - don't hesitate to ask - or even better, if you want me to sort you with fresh quality bait (save you travelling with it..), also let me know, I'll sort you some peelers, that will fall apart in your hands..

Paul
