| Four lifeboats search for missing air ambulance Four lifeboats search for missing air ambulance - RNLI lifeboats and volunteer crews from Campbeltown, Portrush and Islay have been involved in the search for an air ambulance that disappeared earlier this morning (15 March 2005). All four lifeboats were launched around 1.00am after Clyde Coastguard was alerted that an aircraft, with two people (a pilot and a paramedic) onboard, had disappeared eight miles short of Machrihanish airport, south of Islay, Mull of Kintyre. The inshore RNLI lifeboat from Campbeltown was first on scene and found some of the wreckage. The other three lifeboats arrived shortly afterwards and started to follow a search pattern coordinated by Clyde Coastguard. A Navy helicopter from Prestwick, a RAF helicopter from Valley, HMS Penzance, as well as Tarbert and Campbeltown Coastguard Rescue teams were also involved in the search.
