Ebay scam beware Hi guys just thought i would write what has just happened to me,i was browsing ebay this morning minding my own business when i came across item 330562705387 which is a sw stella 1800 reel which retail anywhere between £570-£700 depending where you buy and import taxes, and i know they say that when a bargain seems too good to be true it is but because i contacted ebay with my concerns and they said it was legitimate i then brought one for the bargain price of £199 and paid through paypal (my protection),well within seconds i got my 1st email stating that although i had paid they cannot except paypal payments anymore and i was to cancel my payment and pay by bank wire transfer to a Chinese bank ?????? (not frigging likely) So here we have a guy in Horsham selling a reel from Hong Kong who wants me to pay a bank in China by bank wire with no protection,i am only a SIMPLE MAN but not that simple !!!!!!!! So i contacted ebay again and they told me not to pay (what a surprise) and to go too my paypal account and cancel payment which i did But the most annoying thing is they said in so many words that it looks like some devious b*****d has got this poor guys details and as they cannot access his paypal details then send you emails telling you to send money to a bank in China (5 so far) and will report it to their security as suspicious 3 hours later the reel is still listed on their site I was lucky as i managed to cancel payment and since starting to write this post i have had 2 more emails written in broken English encouraging me to pay very very quick so they can ship today Good luck guys but it looks like i am not going to get my bargain after all ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I would like to add that i have brought loads of tackle from the States and Japan over the last few years and never had any bother at all

Re: Ebay scam beware Glad you could see through the scam, unfortunately others are not as streetwise and they still fall for scams like this. __________________ My Web Site (The Average Coarse Angler) Happiness is Fish Shaped (It used to be woman shaped but the wifes getting on a bit now)

Re: Ebay scam beware I`ve bought from Ebay sellers in USA, S. America, Australia, Hong Kong, Canada, France and various other European countries (not E.European) and luckily enough, haven`t had any problems yet. I always check the feedback thoroughly ( less than 10 think again is a good motto) and read the Ebay updates, it`s in their (and your) best interests to know the latest scams. Nigeria, avoid like the plague, also 1 day inserts, especially for expensive items listed at good prices. Always use PayPal, at least you have some cover with them. I would also check item location too, along with delivery info. Ebay is good fun, but like anywhere you can get stung. Peter ![]()

Re: Ebay scam beware Agreed, but will add, its not only sellers who scam, had a buyer for a Shimano Powerloop 12ft 2.5tc Carp Rod, everything went well until he received it his end, he reported that the item was not what it was supposed to be, so I asked him to photograph the rod and send me the images, which he did, but on closer inspection I could not make out any of the Shimano decals or the Powerloop logo, very strange, cause when it left here they were all in tack, I had even taken pictures of the decals before putting the rod on Ebay. He had removed them!!!, reported it to Ebay, I could have argued for months over the whole thing, but it was not worth the hassle, I lost the appeal and the buyer (although I have rather stronger words I could use) got the rod for free!!!!!! BEWARE!!

Re: Ebay scam beware i live 5 minutes from horsham, email the seller i'll pop over to collect the reel on your behalf & hand over the cash then ... see what he replies lol. that's bad luck complete tangler! i've only had 1 buyer saying the parts he bought for his car were wrong (was his fault at i'd listed the items as front fog lights for renault laguna mk1, he had a mk 2, so i said as soon as i receive the goods back, i'll refund the original payment, but not his p&p aas he didn't read the drescription correctly ... always offer refund upon receipt of returned item & inform ebay that's what you've offered, if buyer doesn't return, they won't refund, i know you'd have been out of pocket as stickers were removed, so you'd have trouble selling it for what it is, but i'm sure someone else would've bought it __________________ www.mobilespanner1.co.uk
