Re: sad news/sign of the times

i read that too this evening, had 2 weeks at brean sands years ago when i was a kid, the camber sands twice, onc with 2 sisters & again with my older daughter. fun times.

bad when you can go to spain, tenerife etc for less than it costs to spend a week at a uk holiday camp. personally, i prefer to stay in the uk ... no worries about customs, air traffic control, ferry, train strikes etc, plus plenty of places to see, you don't have to spend £75 every 10 years to renew your passport, go to the bearu de change etc, charged extra for making calls home on your mobile, leaarning another language so you can get by.

give me the uk anytime, not always the best weather, but you know what's what lol

I agree, they haven't moved with the times. My family and I spent a weekend in a Haven holiday park and when we went for food the chef was a acne ridden 18 year old. The food was awful. Lack of training I felt, using the 'it'll do' approach. Very disappointing.

Re: sad news/sign of the times

Do a lot of camping and my favourire site is Comforts Farm , Isle of Wight. Friendly and NO club, NO huge shop, NO pool and £12 a night all year. Facilities are run down but clean. Can get just about anywhere one the island in no time and , this is a big and, the Travellers Joy pub is just up the road. Over eight real ales and pub food (not michelin star), yes a pub that sells beer that sells food.
Right I deserve commission for that one.

Been to butlins and watched some poor kid manning the noddy ride with the theme tune spooled for hour after hour. I swear he was nodding himself, in a catanic coma. Haven sites are a bit of a mixed bag. Usually if the staff are a bit older they are good (Burnham) but considering the money they can be a tad run down an tired (Perran sands , crap toilets but it has to be said friendly staff). Both are geared to getting your kids to nag you in to buying stuff.

Park resorts sites on the Isle of Wight, OK I guess. Nodes point is my favourite location but at £600+ to camp for two weeks in August, I think me not.

Never went to pontins, can't say I'm that devastated.
