I think the crux of the whole issue is, does the average, sensible bloke or lady get onto a police motorcycle with the intention of falling off so that they can sue the job?

I'm sorry, but having been a motorcyclist for many years, and having come a cropper once, I know for a fact that the benefit of falling off and getting a few quid in compensation is far outweighed by the real risk and probability in killing or maiming yourself!

As Ping said in the opening post, it is all about blame culture and litigation. What the job should be saying is, you've been suitably trained in that particular skill, you're a big boy, if you fall off and it's down to your stupidity then tough!

We've inherited this blame culture from the states, where nothing that happens is ever your fault, there is always someone you can go after for money. Makes me spit.

Don't get me wrong, if you are being made to work in conditions or with equipment that is quite obviously dangerous, then you should be able to say "I ain't doing that until it is rectified" and if the boss/company don't sort it then you have a right to shout.

I've just downed my blood pressure tablets with a glass of whiskey so my rant is now at an end. Thats a point, where is the instructions that came with the whiskey, says nothing on the bottle about it being dangerous to drink with medication. Famous grouse, my claim is in the post!

I love that bit about there being no loss of service because a car can do whatever a bike can do. Been a dispatch rider and there's a reason they still use bikes . BOLLARDS, no that's the reason....not a comment. This the same government that still cannot protect the teenagers we DON'T complain about in Afghanistan with proper kit etc. ? Don't get me started.
