A Naval diver swimming on the surface was bitten by a Bull Shark while perfoming an excersize just off the Naval Base of Garden Is. inside Sydney Harbour today. Parts of his hand and a thigh were eaten by the Shark before he and another diver were able to punch the Shark and scare it away. The Harbour has had huge numbers of baitfish the last 2 years due to the removal of commercial fishing .The bait has attracted large schools of Aussie Salmon (Arripis trutta) and Kingfish (Lalandi seriola) inside the Heads. This in turn has attracted Sharks.A mate saw one on the surface under the Harbour Bridge on sunday, all I saw was this HUGE swirl as it ate something ! Some local boat fishers have been unlucky enough to get their prized catch of Kingfish bitten in two by the sharks in the last couple of weeks (they generously leave the head behind!) He is in a critical but stable condition in Hospital. Just 2 days ago a 5yr old child was eaten by a Croc in Queensland. What with the fires in Victoria, and floods up north we seem to have had nothing but DISASTERS lately ![]() __________________ Chris

Re: Navy Diver Attacked by a Bull Shark in Sydney Given the choice of being burnt to death in the Melbourne bushfires (death toll is over 200 and still rising) and being eaten by a shark I think I know which way I would want my body 'recycled' ! __________________ Chris

Re: Navy Diver Attacked by a Bull Shark in Sydney Been here 10yrs now, both our kids born in NZ, the fishing is out of this world, read my report from January. We dive for crays and scallops, we went to White Island earlier in the year and caught two Kingfish both over 20kg. My personal best snapper is 6kg, want to try for at least 7kg this summer. I caught a 5kg Kawhai last christmas (that is a fish of a life time) and smashed the boat record by more than a kilo, they don't get much more than 3kg. The weather is great most of the time, we live within 20mins of about 100 beaches and there are thousands less than an hour away. Since moving here we have payed off our house Loan, we built a swimming pool in our huge back garden, and we have had several holidays to Australia and the pacific Islands, I hope to spend my 40th (next Year) in Tahiti with my wife, and we leave for Fiji next week, I am hoping to get a days fishing in, for Giant Trevally. Most of our foods is cooked on the BBQ outside. Our kids go to a fantastic school, they learn Mouri, and the school has it's own swimming pool for lessons. Our familys come over at least once every year, and stay for 4-5 months at a time, so the kids see lots of their granparents, my dad had never caught a fish in his life till he came out with me, the skipper instructed him on what to do, got his first bait down, handed the rod to dad, who said how do I know when I get a bite, and with comical timeing his rod bent double and the skipper said "You got a bite mate, now stop yakking and pull that B@#%$y fish in." The smaile on his face was priceless!!!! so all in all pretty damn fine, I will try and send more fishing reports this year, I have several awsome trips lined up, 5 day trips and two live aboard, the first been Nov 6th, 7th and 8th.
