| Howdy, Y'all! I found this site surfing a while back and just decided to stop in and say howdy. I'm a South Texas largemouth bass fisherman but I figure fishing is fishing. I've enjoyed reading the threads and while I'm not familiar with some of your terms I'm figuring it out. If I have any questions I'll be sure to ask and I'll be glad to share how we fish in this neck of the woods if anyone is interested |

| Re: Howdy, Y'all! Thanks for the welcome! I haven't been able to get out the last couple of weeks so I'm starting to have withdrawl symptoms, although fishing can get a little tough this time of year. It is either windy enough to blow the hair off a dog or dead calm and over 100 degrees. Beats not fishing, though. I usually fish the lakes around here-I've got a 17-6 bass boat so I have a lot of options. Biggun, you wanted some pictures so here are a couple. This one: ![]() I caught on a topwater on a big lake about 75 miles south of San Antonio on a topwater plug. When it hit it looked like someone dropped a big rock on my bait. It weighed right about 6 pounds, and is the second biggest largemouth I have caught-the biggest weighed about 8 pounds. This one: ![]() Is the largest smallmouth bass I have caught-2 lbs 1 oz. I caught it on a soft plastic stickbait called a Tiki Stick. Smallmouth bass are more of a cold water fish so they aren't all that common in Texas waters. The lake it came from is about 30 miles north of San Antonio. I didn't know I had it at first. I made the cast and got a backlasy and he picked it up as I was picking the backlash out. Thought I was hung up until the line started moving. I was surprised when I got it close enough to the boat and saw it was a smallie-I figured it was a pretty good sized largemouth, but smallmouth are tough fighters for their size. I let them both go so I can catch them again when they get bigger I have a trip scheduled for next Saturday, and I am ready to go already! |
