Help! We have just finished constructing / filling(water) a new pond (approx. 1acre in size). Q. Is it common that the water level 'drops' suddenly this time of year. As we are in the early stages of adding coarse fish, could this affect the introduction of the fish?

Re: Help! A lot of factors can affect a pond's ability to hold water, including water use (includes wells), rainfall, ice melt, evaporation, water lost to the ground etc...

Re: Help! I guess if it is a newly dug pond then the ground could easily have soaked up a percentage of the water. Is the pond lined in any way? I would not be adding any fish for at least 6 months to allow a level of natural bacteria and pond life to establish itself. If you do it too early all you will end up with is a load of dead fish. Also note that it is a legal requirement to obtain written conscent from the Enviroment Agency before you introduce any fish into the water. I am not sure how much you have looked into this (by the nature of your question, I would suspect not a great deal). You should really take a look at the following website http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk...sion=1&lang=_e and in particular this booklet http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk...eng_172017.pdf
